Our Rankings Process

To ensure transparency and gain valuable insights from the wrestling community, Wisconsin Grappler provides a clear picture of our ranking process.

Here’s how it works:

  • We maintain a watch list of talented high school wrestlers in Wisconsin, categorized by weight class.
  • We meticulously track their achievements throughout the year, focusing on important competitions.
  • Additionally, we monitor major tournaments to identify potential rising stars for ranking consideration.
  • Wrestlers are then ranked based on their accomplishments at these key events.

Head to Head:

One of the key factors in determining a ranking is the concept of head-to-head competition. We look for head-to-head results when available, to determine the ranking of that athlete.

It is very important to understand that a head-to-head victory in the most recent event will carry more weight, especially when athletes wrestle each other multiple times.

Significant Wins / Notable Results:

There is also the concept of a “notable result,” (or significant win) which occurs when two ranked wrestlers compete against each other, or an unranked wrestler beats a ranked wrestler. Notable results are truly important in helping an athlete become ranked or improve upon their ranking. These notable results can come in smaller competitions, dual meets, etc. which may not be on the watch list, so information on notable wins coming from the general public is very much appreciated. Please do not assume that our team knows about every notable win at the local levels. We try our best, but moreover appreciate the help in keeping track of these results.

If you know of a notable result, we encourage to submit details on our Who Beat Who page.

Additional Considerations:

We also consider schedule toughness, offseason results, recommendations from club coaches and high school coaches, and recommendations from other leaders in the wrestling community.

Feedback Appreciated!

At any time, we will accept information on a wrestler who should be on the watch list. If you are interested in helping the ranking committee learn about a specific athlete, or you have information on competitions and results that would assist in the rankings, we encourage you to use the Who Beat Who Page?.

Your assistance is not only appreciated, but also encouraged. It is not easy getting information on all high school wrestling, especially at the local levels, so the general public is invited to participate. Information will be reviewed at any time of the year.
